WATCH: THE AGE-OLD SHARING ECONOMIC PRINCIPLES OF SOME AFRICAN CULTURES INCLUDING THE IGBOS, CAPABLE OF CHANGING THE WORLD
At the time when Africans and indeed Nigerians are having doubts over our heritage and culture, and increasingly embracing the white philosophy or values to the detriment of our identity, more and more foreigners are pointing us homeward, towards the uncelebrated practices and philosophies of our forbearers. Some of which are still very important and in practice today, and if inculcated world over is capable of changing the world for the better.
One of such elucidations came from an American journalist, a known investigative reporter, Robert Neuwirth during TED Talk. He explained the sharing economic principles of some cultures in Africa including the Igbos, held for ages and still relevant today. Watch the clip below as he explains it:
After seeing the above clip, I was proud as a Nigerian and indeed an African, and you should be proud to know that we could and still can offer the world some of our age-long principles and it will work wonders even at this age, as suggested by Robert.
We must learn to value our systems and culture as a people, even when it is not perfect, if we must be valued by the world. We are naturally gifted and talented people and all we need is the believe in ourselves and ‘lines would fall in pleasant places for us. Arise!
